Hermes

This week my patrons requested me to illustrate the prompt: Your favorite Olympian God or one of the Greek Titans!

My favourite Olympian God is Hermes: considered the herald of the gods. He is also considered the protector of human heralds, travellers, thieves, merchants, and orators. He is able to move quickly and freely between the worlds of the mortal and the divine, aided by his winged sandals. Hermes plays the role of the psychopomp or "soul guide"—a conductor of souls into the afterlife.

All of this, the one that moves in the liminal spaces, between mortal and the divine, to guide souls, has been more than once related to my job as a psychoanalyst. We move between conscious and unconscious, we guide our patients through the boundaries, and we help them to listen to what their gods are saying.

I wanted to give him a modern/futuristic spin though, to bring Hermes more into our current time, so there is a bit of post apocalyptic fashion in the design: His name is in ancient greek but stamped in a modern font on his cloak (which reverse shows a turtle shell pattern, because the turtle is one of his symbols too). His famous lyre is now a tattoo, and only caduceus staff and wings on his head remain as they would have looked like originally.

I hope you liked this piece!

If you did, consider fueling me with coffee so I keep creating fantasy illustrations every week!
